LEGACIES AFFILIATE PROGRAM
|
What is a Family Historian Affiliate?
Personal | Family | Organizational (PFO) historians preserve not only life stories, but the histories of businesses, towns, families, places of worship … the list is endless. The term ‘personal historian’ didn’t come into the mainstream until after 1995. Legacies, LLC was established in 2001 and has evolved into a career that is both personally and professionally rewarding. After close to 20 years producing keepsake books for families, one would think I learned all there is to learn, but each day brings new knowledge, techniques, ideas, and inspiration. |
The elements of this most satisfying profession fall into four categories: Organization, Research, Writing and Production – the Legacies, LLC Model. My goal is to support others who wish to establish a worthwhile entrepreneurial venture using this model, the impetus behind the Legacies, LLC Affiliate Program.
This is a ‘hot’ profession with vast potential for income and growth. In a past issue of the Financial Post, personal historians were named as one of the top ten business opportunities, to “serve the needs of luxury-seeking, time-pressed, and suddenly health-conscious individuals”.
Interest in the field has caught on like wildfire. Personal historians and their clients have been featured in hundreds of major and local news outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, AARP, Money, O Magazine, to name a few.
My hope is to establish a Legacies, LLC Affiliate in each state, building a network of PFO historian professionals. Affiliate Candidates will not only learn of the personal history business, but will be trained in the Legacies, LLC model. This individualized in-depth training is spread over a six-month time period establishing a foundational theoretical baseline, the practical side of running one's own business, plus the tools and techniques of the trade through a variety of online teaching and coaching methods.

Heritage Writers heralds from Washington State. Newly established, its owner, Carla Swedish writes:
"For many years I wrote profiles for area magazines. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of interviewing and compiling stories of families and local business owners. In addition, as my husband and I ‘right-sized’ shifting through my parents and grandparent’s photos, documents, and articles I yearned, as many do, to hear the backstories behind the images".
This past year, I learned of Legacies, LLC whose sole mission it is to help others organize, research, write and
produce family keepsakes. It was a perfect fit for me to use my writing skills and learn of the many facets of the
personal history business, and an exciting journey for me as I enter into my next professional chapter.
